Exploring the future
Digital technology is evolving in leaps and bounds, and we’re excited about what that means for travellers. Explore new technology initiatives at the airport from robots to touchscreens, and get a glimpse of what the future has in store!
Digital Innovation Zone
On Level One, next to Domestic Arrivals, you’ll find our Digital Innovation Zone. It’s a space where we work on innovative ideas and experiment with emerging technologies, from humanoid robots to mixed reality and a variety of other disruptive technologies.
- Check out our FlightRadar24 touchscreen which tracks live flights to and from Christchurch Airport or anywhere in the world.
- In 2019 we began trialing our first humanoid robot, Pepper. In fact, our first Pepper was such a hit that we’ve since expanded our robot population to four! We now have two sets of twins – two named Pepper and two named NAO. They live in our Digital Innovation Zone but their favourite place to be is out interacting with visitors. Their ‘minder’ often takes them for a walk in the terminal to chat with people, answer questions, pose for photos (they’re always up for a selfie)… and dance!
- You can also charge up your electronic devices at our wireless charging station.
